about

A pairing of two Hong Kong underground titans, Fergus Heathcote and DJ Yakuza team up to form Chungking & Mansions. The production duo pull inspiration from the fast pace lifestyle of their home city and the sinister late night warehouse parties that form the bedrock to their debut EP 'The Snake.'

Opening track "15 Grams" was influenced by an euphoric, dark and humid excursion to a drum & bass rave in Hong Kong's industrial area Fo Tan. The duo then collaborated with fledging London rapper NV on an ominous roadrap release dubbed "One Time."

The third track is "Opium War Riddim" which kicks off on a boom-bap tip in ode to '90s Death Row Records affiliate Miilkbone, before quickly melding into a frisky 160 BPM jungle anthem. Rounding out the four track EP is "Tried by 69," a east-meets-west production tinged with modern colonial nostalgia. Cantonese vocals are paired with melodic strings from Odetta's "Sakura" (which was also infamously rendered in East Flatbush Project's "Tried By 12") and layered over a merciless drum & bass shuffle.
